10月25日，麦当劳中国在北京举行的活动上宣布，从2018年底至2022年，麦当劳中国计划开设超过1800家绿色餐厅，占新开餐厅的95%以上。
绿色餐厅在建设阶段，会加强施工流程和废弃建筑材料的回收和管理，降低施工过程中的污染。
内部设施上，还会使用更加节约水和能源的控制系统等。
建设绿色餐厅是麦当劳可持续发展行动计划（ScaleForGood）的一部分。
计划包括促进包装与回收、儿童营养、节约能源和年轻人就业等。
麦当劳中国除了开设绿色餐厅，2018年11月开始，部分餐厅将减少吸管，鼓励消费者减少塑料吸管的使用或者设计新的杯盖。
