When Sun Wukong wanted to become the Great Sage Equal to Heaven, ..
.. the Jade Emperor agreed and gave him the title of “Great Sage Equal to Heaven”.
At the suggestion of Taibai Jinxing, the Jade Emperor also gave Sun Wukong a new job—looking after the Immortal Peach Garden.
The Immortal Peach Garden was truly one of the most beautiful gardens in Heaven.
As soon as Sun Wukong stepped inside, he smelled a sweet fragrance.
Before his eyes was an endless peach grove, with green light glowing from each peach tree.
The trees were covered with peach blossoms, and some of the trees had already borne peaches.
Those peaches were huge.
Their surfaces seemed to shimmer with a layer of golden light, and they also had a unique fragrance.
Taibai Jinxing introduced this to Sun Wukong and said, “Great Sage, this is the Immortal Peach Garden.
The immortal peaches here are no ordinary peaches. They come in three kinds.
第一种,三千年一熟,人吃了会身体健康,不再生病;
The first kind ripens once every three thousand years. People who eat it will be healthy and never fall ill.
第二种,六千年一熟,人吃了能长生不老;
The second kind ripens once every six thousand years. People who eat it will live forever.
The third kind is the most remarkable. It ripens once every nine thousand years.
People who eat it can improve their magical powers and will live as long as the sun and the moon!
These have all been prepared for the Queen Mother of the West’s Immortal Peach Banquet.
Your new job is to look after this place.”
“Immortal Peach Banquet? The Queen Mother of the West?” This was Sun Wukong’s first time hearing about this.
“Yes,” Taibai Jinxing nodded and explained, “That is one of the liveliest festivals in the Heavenly Palace.
The Queen Mother of the West is one of the most highly respected goddesses in the Heavenly Palace.
She is in charge of hosting the Immortal Peach Banquet.
When the time comes, she will invite all the immortals to come eat the immortal peaches.”
Sun Wukong wasn’t really listening. His eyes were fixed on those great peaches that ripen only once every nine thousand years.
“All right, don’t worry. Leave this to me. There won’t be any issues. You can go about your business,” Sun Wukong said.
Sun Wukong wanted Taibai Jinxing to leave quickly so that he could take a good look around his peach garden alone.
However, Taibai Jinxing did not leave.
He wanted to take Sun Wukong to look at another place, saying that he wanted to give Sun Wukong a surprise.
A surprise? What surprise?
Taibai Jinxing brought Sun Wukong to the front of a newly built, beautiful house.
On the door were five large, glowing characters—“Residence of the Great Sage Equal to Heaven”.
