据报道，维基百科背后的基金会宣布，将不再接受加密货币作为捐赠方式，并将关闭其比特币支付账户，防止未来有任何加密货币的捐赠。
这项决定经过了基金会成员长时间的讨论，最终大多数人投票废除了加密货币捐赠。
基金会表示于2021年收到了占捐赠总额0.08%的加密货币捐款。
因为与其他捐赠形式相比，加密货币捐赠数量相对较少，但是有一定的环境影响与诈骗风险等一系列问题。
